Dynamic AI Overview expansion does not rewrite the impression rule
Google confirmed dynamic AI Overview expansion for some queries on 28 August 2026. Search Console still counts AI Overview impressions under the existing rule that a link must be scrolled or expanded into view. Expansion is a SERP presentation change, not a new impression metric.
